BIOGRAPHY

Versione Italiana

Luciano Papucci is born in Pisa in 1951 to Lara Redini, housewife, and Filberto, a construction worker.

The family is economically poor, but rich in feelings, experiences, ways to live life, especially the mom, Lara, who, besides her love for music, literature and art in general, paints; in order to earn some money, she virtuously enriches her own drawings or skilfully revises black and white pictures of that time manually.

Luciano attends elementary school [2]in Uliveto Terme (Pisa), but not middle school[3]; there’s no money to buy books. He shows, since his young age, numerous and several interests: besides his deep desire for knowledge, he loves music, literature and painting, like his mother does.

When he’s about eleven-twelve years old, he starts painting too, reproducing and copying postcards and great artists’ works.

By growing up, he becomes a passionate and careful reader; his taste ranges from literature to philosophy, theology, art, without any prejudices or mental blocks. He also writes poetry, through which he gets to express suffering, loneliness, pain, but, with the same intensity, the joy of living, the importance of making a dream come true and the fundamental desire to research the truth as well.

He loves music more and more, surely ranging through its genres, among jazz, rock, opera, symphonic… as long as it’s good music. By listening to countless music pieces, his emotional world gets enhanced, strengthened, and this way, the man becomes part of it, so much that he seems to permeate the harmony of notes.

At the same time, for him, even the two-wheels’ roar is music, so he soon develops an almost maniacal passion for sport motorbikes, which he still rides down the street and on tracks, showing off some gritty performances.

In October of 1976 he marries Maria Rosa Pierini; two years later they give birth to Silvia, who right away shows she inherited propensity towards creativity and art from her grandma Lara and her dad Luciano, and this will allow her to get a “Furniture Designer” diploma, first, and a “Fashion Stylist” one later.

Meanwhile Papucci, during the ‘80s, after a few life choices related to family and work, suspends the art activity almost completely, but attends Master Bruno Pollacci’s Painting and Drawing Academy at evening, where he deals with drawing and improves his technical-pictorial knowledge, searching for chromatic and compositional balances.

Occasionally, he gets in touch with the artist Enrico Fornaini: together they plan a few day trips in simple natural, but beautiful, environments, where Luciano creates some still-life “sketches”, related to his viscerally beloved “countryside”.

But it’s in 2002 that Papucci completely resumes the artistic activity, due to an interior overwhelming need. He starts painting several real landscapes again, but soon, his personal and logical-experiential maturation process, forces him to a quick transformation of his painting, in which, since 2103-2014, he gets to make interior forms of energy visible, without the need to realistically describe anything any longer.

He followed, by himself, a deep and fascinating itinerary, aiming to deeply understand and explore his own and other people’s interior world, getting to love oriental philosophies, especially Buddhism, the Zen meditation and the “I-Khings” study, harmoniously joining, inside him, this “new” spirituality with his totally and evolving Christian interior Truth.

Some of the works from this last period revoke the cosmic suffering, the Christ’s Sacrifice, while other ones constitute an explosion of pure interior joy, originated by the amazed observation of an fully expanding DNA primigenial strand, so that Papucci happily feels like a man among men, in harmony with the others and the universe.

Vitality, energy and love for life are, then, the hallmark of this Artist who, without ignoring troubles and sufferings, is constantly searching for emotions, freedom, powerful stimuluses, as when he rides his fast bikes.

The Artist currently lives in Calci (Pisa) and has his own atelier-lab in San Giovanni alla Vena (Vicopisano) where he’s always been working as artisan and gilder professionally and with passion, creating exclusive and completely hand painted frames.

Thanks to the size of the environment as well, Luciano, during the last years, managed to combine, into “his habitat”, his main needs: realizing frames and paintings-sculptures and exposing them, so that customers, friends, fans, art lovers and numerous collectors who frequent the location, could fully and calmly examine them, pleasantly exchanging views, experiences, ways to understand Life and Truth…
